On 11th April, 1915, 1st Royal Scots Fusiliers of 9 Brigade, 3rd Division moved into trenches at St Eloi, just to the south of Ypres, where they remained until relieved on 15th April. John Albany was killed on 15th April when the battalion’s relief was hindered by an anticipated attack and a heavy bombardment of the Bluff, a nearby feature on the canal. |
